This claw shaped cap slips over the portion of foot that sits flat on the floor, enclosing both sides, front and top of furniture-foot. This Federal design was extensively used by Duncan Phyfe, a Neoclassical cabinet maker in early 19th century. This style was then revived again in the 1900's.
